Sterling Silver One-of-a-kind 5 carat Rough Diamond Design by Dawn

The wax model has been completed; next step is casting the model in Sterling Silver.

Modeling the matching Twig Band in jeweler's wax. There will be a Twig version as well as a Leaf & Twig Version.

Starting on a new Sterling Silver, One-of-a-kind design based on my new 2 prong design.  My daughter, my awesome business partner has requested this design to be made with two options for the second band.

A complimentary matching leaf band as well as a matching twig band. So in the next two weeks, I'll sculpt in wax a matching leaf band as well as a twig band...it's gonna be fun because I love what I do.

New Leaf and Twig Custom Design in Progress by Dawn - Dawn Vertrees Jewelry Designs

This is a new design that came to me yesterday afternoon, so I quickly started on the project around 1pm. The wax model is still in the design process, but I thought I would share this new design with you.

This will be a cast-in-place wax model using a 2.8ct rough low profile diamond.
I will add a link at the bottom to
describe the cast-in-place process.

The wax and the diamond will be cast together making this a very strong ring and because of this technique, I only need two twig prongs to hold the diamond in place.

Another unique feature I love in my designs is the non-traditional setting under the stone. I want to carry the twig design on top as well as the bottom. Please keep in mind, I only have about 5 hours in this model so it is still in the rough.

Before I go to far with the Solitaire, I start designing the 2nd band. I'm starting with the leaf band first and then I will design a twig band option.

Once I complete the designs, I will start fine tuning the wax models and the last step is adding the texture to the leaves and twigs.

This concept can be modified in so many ways other than going all twig, or adding leaves.

This will be a one-of-a-kind using the cast-in-place process.

Unless it is sold prior to casting, I want to use 14k Rose Gold, Antiqued.

The Cast-in-Place Process, Jewelry by Dawn Vertrees

I use this process for my One-of-a-Kind designs.

Cast in Place

My rings shown right after being cast in gold with the Rough Ruby and Diamond in place.

The Cast-in-Place process produces the strongest rings available and is the perfect choice for active people.

I create these rings by sculpting my wax directly on the stone. These stones become my canvas and allows me to create natural flowing designs.

Once the design has been completed, the stone and the wax are cast together, this process results in a ring where the stone and the metal literally become one piece, also making each ring a one-of-a-kind creation.

Once we melt the gold at 1000 degrees, it flows around the stone where my wax was previously, I will post the Lost-Wax-Process next.

The picture shows two rings that were recently cast-in-place with the stones prior to polishing. The only stones I can use in this process are Rough Diamonds, Rubies and Sapphires and other stones will not survive.

These stones are considered precious gemstones and have a hardness of 9.5 to 10 on the Mohs scale. These stones can endure the 1000 degrees temperatures without cracking once the gold hits them. Another benefit in this process is that the gold actually shrinks 1% allowing a tight fit around the stones.

I hope you enjoy reading about my processes. -Dawn
