Why have I chosen to hand cut our Gemstones:

Gemstone material that has not been extensively cut and polished is referred to as "Rough".

Rough material that has been hammered to knocked off the brittle fractured edges is said to have been cobbled.

Twig Engagement Ring

So, what I have chosen to do is remove the brittle fractures by hand polishing our rough gemstones in our studio here in North Carolina and allowing a longer lifespan of the stone for our customers. A stone that has been hand cut is a stronger stone and in my opinion a safer stone to have.

To keep the integrity of the rough gemstones, we only remove the brittle edges and keep true to the unique shape of the original rough gemstone. This way we can create a beautiful artistically cut gemstone that is still Cruelty-Free but very unique in shape.

This is my way of giving you a true one-of-a-kind hand sculpted and hand cut ring.

What are Rustic Diamonds?

WHAT ARE RUSTIC DIAMONDS?

Well, simply put, they are diamonds that are included. Perfect in their imperfections. The look is a kind of smoky stone touched with streaks of contrasting color. I love the warm, sparkly, glow that emanates from them.

Sometimes they have tiny little surface inclusions that were created during the growing process and this only enhances their individual and artisan quality.

The thing I love about rustic diamonds is that each one is perfectly unique.

They have a wonderful organic, earthy look and feel about them; that is both understated and glam all at the same time. A quiet luxury if you will.

 Rustic diamonds are usually rose cut. Rose cuts date back to the 16th century and were popular before the classical round shape came into fashion. 

They have a flat bottom and a crown which is made up of tiny triangle facets. Each of our diamonds are Cruelty-Free and are not heat treated or glass filled.

Hand Cut Free Form Opal

 As Welo opal from Ethiopia is a comparative newcomer to the world of opal, having been discovered as recently as 2008, scholars and others have yet to settle on describing and officially naming the various patterns found in this magnificent opal material. For instance, this gorgeous stone can recognizably be described as having a “flagstone” or “blocky” or “ribbon” pattern”.

The fact remains that some patterns are extremely rare while others are common in the entire range of Welo opal. The colorful patches in this charming stone are dynamic, changing with each movement in the light and regardless of what you choose to call it, it is indeed a splendid stone.

It is difficult to capture these dynamic patterns with a camera but I can confidently indicate to you that this stone is significantly better in person. The diverse world of Welo opal patterns is rich for exploration and naming.

Ruby, Sapphire, Emeralds and More!

Most people are surprised to hear that rubies,sapphires, and emeralds have been found in North Carolina. They are even more surprised when they learn that there are about a dozen locations in North Carolina where anyone can look for gemstones and keep anything that they find.

Gem materials found in North Carolina include aquamarine, beryl, citrine, emerald, garnet, moonstone, rose quartz, ruby, sapphire, smoky quartz, staurolite, topaz, tourmaline, and many others. Members of the North Carolina Legislature declared emerald the state's official gemstone.

Amethyst found in
Catawba County, North Carolina

A small piece was taken from this North Carolina Amethyst Crystal and was artistically hand cut for me. It absolutely blows me away seeing something so beautiful in its crystal form and then artistically cut to give me a beautiful gemstone for me to sculpt my wax around it.

Cutting our own stones have taken my designs full circle, with hand cut stones and hand sculpted designs using the lost wax method.

This gives new meaning to one-of-a-kind creations. Each stone is cut based on the rough gemstones organic shapes. The shape of the stones dictate how the gemstones are cut...we simply just follow the lines.

Rough Amethyst
Artistically Hand Cut

These stones will not have the traditional common features such as a crown, girdle, and pavilion. They will not be calibrated or cut for a set size. I am looking for fewer cuts on these gemstones so that they would work with my organic designs.

Not being calibrated means that each design will have to be hand sculpted around the stones each time. No two designs will look alike.

The primary material will be 14k and 18k Yellow, White and Rose Gold which is Cruelty-Free and refined here in the US.


The wax model I am sculpting below is only partially completed. It will be my first

method.

design using our new gemstones.

Once the wax model is completed, it will be cast in 14k Yellow or Rose Gold and the amethyst will be set afterwards. The twigs will become the prongs.

This ring would make a beautiful Engagement Ring, Anniversary Ring or just simply a Fashionable Statement Ring.

This Blue Montana Sapphire was hand cut using a very old Jamb Peg Machine which is a device used in faceting gems comprising a piece of wood containing a series of holes in which a dop stick can be fixed at varying angles. These are hand cut so the faceting is not a calibrated and may be slightly uneven with slight imperfections in the sapphire.
